Warrant Issued For Commerce Burglary And Auto Theft Suspect

On the morning of March 24, 2025, at approximately 09:30 am, the Commerce Police Department received a report of a building burglary and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle on Fourth Street in Commerce. Reporting Officers worked with the victim to obtain as much detail as possible and canvassed the area for other potential evidence.

On March 25, 2025, at approximately 2:08 am, the Commerce Police Department responded to a call for service in the 2200 block of Live Oak Street. While at the location, handling an unrelated matter, observant Officers noticed many items matching the description of the stolen property from 17 hours earlier on Fourth Street. Further investigation confirmed that someone had taken the items from Fourth Street. Additionally, Officers uncovered that the stolen vehicle was still in the area. East Texas A&M Police assisted in looking for the stolen vehicle and recovered it in the area.

The officers’ diligent work, keen observations, and collaborative efforts with the East Texas A&M Police Department enabled the speedy recovery of thousands of dollars worth of stolen property, which they returned to the rightful owner. Their work also led to the identification of a suspect in the case, and a search for him ensued.

At about 4:08 am, officers located a person matching the suspect’s description in the area of Tractor Supply. However, the suspect fled, and the officers were unable to identify him. Today, the Commerce Police Department Criminal Investigation Division obtained arrest warrants for the suspect, Edward Wayne Garcia. Mr. Garcia currently has three outstanding warrants issued Tuesday for burglary of a building, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and burglary of a motor vehicle, all stemming from this ongoing investigation. Additionally, Hopkins County wanted Mr. Garcia for property theft.
