Wednesday’s Sports

MLB

Tuesday

NLCS – Game 7, Diamondbacks 4-3

Diamondbacks (84-78) 4 – Phillies (90-72) 2

Doubted and dismissed when baseball’s postseason began, the Diamondbacks have transformed into something different throughout October. And after winning Game 7 of the National League Championship Series on Tuesday 4-2, their second victory in two days at Citizens Bank Park, they set up perhaps the most improbable World Series in baseball history, a showdown with the similarly surprising Texas Rangers that begins Friday night in Arlington. Game 1 is 7:03 pm on FOX.

NFL

Jerry Jones said Tuesday that he is willing to make a move to improve the Dallas Cowboys before the trade deadline, but he doesn’t plan to initiate talks with other teams. The trade deadline is Tuesday, October 31, at 3:00 pm Dallas time. Jones’ Cowboys return from their bye at 4-2 and in second place behind the Philadelphia Eagles (6-1), who made an impact trade Monday, acquiring safety Kevin Byard from the Tennessee Titans. Despite the loss to the 49ers, Jones still views his team as being among the NFL’s best.

NBA

Wednesday

Rockets (0-0) at Orlando Magic (0-0) at 6:00 pm

Thunder (0-0) at Chicago Bulls (0-0) at 7:00 pm

Pelicans (0-0) at Memphis Grizzlies (0-0) at 7:00 pm

Mavericks (0-0) at San Antonio Spurs (0-0) at 8:30 pm

The San Antonio Spurs have been cautious with Victor Wembanyama (WEM-buh-YA-ma) so far. In summer league, the 7-foot-4 rookie sensation played in only two games as he was coming off an entire season in the French league, including a run to the finals. In the preseason, he skipped one game like other key Spurs players. But when it comes to the regular season, Wembanyama wants to ensure he’s available.

NHL

Tuesday

Stars (4-0-1) 4 – Penguins (2-4-0) 1

Thomas Harley and Wyatt Johnston’s third-period goals gave the Stars a win over the Penguins 4-1. Jason Robertson came up with his first goal of the season.

COLLEGE

Jurors found Baylor University was negligent and in violation of Title IX in a federal civil trial in which a former female student, Dolores Lozano, alleged having been physically abused by a football player in 2014. Jurors delivered the verdict Tuesday afternoon after starting deliberations midday Monday. They awarded Lozano $270,000 for the negligence claim but no financial award for the Title IX violation.

HIGH SCHOOL

In Volleyball, Harts Bluff gave Clarksville a loss in Clarksville’s last home game last Friday. The Lady Bulldogs did in the Lady Tigers in three straight sets.

The Detroit Lady Eagles have one step left toward an undefeated district championship. Last Friday, the Lady Eagles picked up their 34th win of the season over Rivercrest. Detroit moved to 34-5 with the victory and 8-0 in district. The Lady Rebels are now 17-16 overall and 3-5 in district play.
