Houston leads their series 2-0 after Game 2 against the Oakland Athletics Tuesday. Game 3 is 2:35 this afternoon.

Ryan Weathers pitched for the first time in a major league game Tuesday night when he appeared in relief for the Padres in Game 1 of their NL Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He became the fifth player in the modern era to make his big-league debut in a postseason game, and three of those newcomers did it this year. Minnesota outfielder Alex Kirilloff and Tampa Bay left-hander Shane McClanahan were the others.

In Arlington, Justin Turner and the Los Angeles Dodgers started their National League Division Series. The Dodgers won it 5-1 Tuesday night over the San Diego Padres. The excitement came when home plate ump Lance Barrett tossed Padres’ manager Jayce Tingler in the sixth. The manager was making his sixth pitching change at the time.

NBA

The LA Lakers did in the Miami Heat 102-96 and are now one win away from the NBA championship.

COLLEGE

Stephen F. Austin placed their soccer program in isolation after a positive COVID-19 test. The Ladyjacks went 2-1-2 through the seven fall matches they scheduled.

The University of Texas will continue to examine its relationship with “The Eyes of Texas,” through a new committee tasked with examining the racist history behind the school song and issuing recommendations on how to reconcile that history with the role the song plays in campus culture today.

HIGH SCHOOL

Sulphur Springs Lady Cats severed up a 3-2 victory against the Marshall Lady Mavericks in Tuesday’s volleyball game.

The Shelbyville Dragons are looking for a new opponent after West Hardin postponed their game. West Hardin had a concern with COVID.

Cumby Trojans plan to pick up football again this week when the travel to Quinlan for a district game against Boles. Its been nearly a month sitting on the sideline for Cumby.
