Wyatt Langford hit a game-ending grand slam off All-Star closer Clay Holmes that gave the Texas Rangers a 7-4 win over the Yankees on Tuesday night. That stroke dropped the Yankees out of the AL East lead. Langford hit the first walk-off slam by a Rangers rookie, sending Holmes (2-5) to his Major League-high 11th blown save in 40 chances. Texas overcame a 4-1 eighth-inning deficit.

WNBA
What has already been a landmark 2024 for guard, Caitlin Clark got even better Wednesday, as the Indiana Fever qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2016. It ended the franchise’s seven-season playoff drought, which tied for the longest in WNBA history. Clark, the No. 1 draft pick and front-runner for WNBA Rookie of the Year, and the Fever made the postseason despite not playing Tuesday. That was thanks to Las Vegas’ 90-71 victory over Chicago and Phoenix’s 74-66 win against Atlanta.
NBA
A federal judge approved Diamond Sports Group’s deals with the NBA and NHL on Tuesday. This was another step forward in the bankrupt operator’s nearly 18-month quest to emerge from Chapter 11 reorganization. A representative for Diamond, which runs regional sports networks under the name Bally Sports, said the company hopes to file a reorganization plan that will allow for confirmation hearings at some point within the first half of November.
US OPEN
On Tuesday, Frances Tiafoe (tee-AH-foe) and Taylor Fritz’s victories set up an all-American semifinal at the US Open, guaranteeing the United States a man in the title match at the country’s Grand Slam tournament. It is the first time in 18 years.
COLLEGE
Florida State fell out of the Associated Press college football poll on Tuesday after starting the season 0-2, becoming just the third team to go from preseason top-10 to unranked in the first regular-season poll since the rankings expanded to 25 in 1989. In the top five are Georgia, Ohio St, Texas, Alabama, and Notre Dame. At No. 15 is Oklahoma, followed by Oklahoma St, LSU, and No. 19 Kansas.
