Zack Gelof (JEL-off) homered early, Max Schuemann (SHOE-man) and Nick Allen drove in runs with 12th-inning bunts, and the Oakland Athletics bettered the Houston Astros on Tuesday night.

The Rangers didn’t fare any better than the Astros. Christian Walker hit a pair of homers, Zac Gallen threw five dominant innings, and the Arizona Diamondbacks shut out the Texas Rangers 6-0 on Tuesday night.

The Astros are still ahead of the Seattle Mariners by 4.5 games and Texas by 7:5.

Veteran stars Jacob deGrom (duh-GROM) and Max Scherzer (SURE-zer) will rejoin the Texas Rangers’ pitching rotation later this week after both had an extended absence due to injuries.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver said Tuesday that expansion was not discussed at this week’s meeting of the league’s board of governors. Silver says they will address the topic at some point this season.

Breanna Stewart scored 27 points, Sabrina Ionescu (EE-uh-NEST-coo) had 14 and 11 of New York’s season-high 33 assists, and the Liberty cruised by the Dallas Wings 105-91 on Tuesday night.

Marie Baertz (BATES) carded in a top 10 finish for the Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s golf team at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial on Tuesday at the Twin Oaks Country Club. The Lions are right back in action next week at the UTA Maverick Classic, next Monday-Tuesday.
