Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown tore the ACL, MCL, and PCL in his right knee and will have surgery this week, according to multiple sources. He will need significant recovery time. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas that Overshown would have surgery but was unsure when he would return.

It has happened again. This time, someone broke into Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s home during Monday night’s game against the Cowboys in the latest home burglary of a pro athlete in the U.S. They ransacked his home, according to Hamilton County Ohio’s Sheriff’s Office.

Gilmer Buckeyes Tra Fluellen, a former Middle Tennessee State safety and UFL draft pick, has signed with the New Orleans Saints.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SHAY / gil-GUH-ous) scored 39 points, and the Oklahoma City Thunder did in the Dallas Mavericks 118-104 on Tuesday night in an NBA Cup quarterfinal.

During a media interview last Friday, the NBA fined Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards $25,000 for using profane language. Edwards’ comments came after the Timberwolves’ 107-90 win at Golden State.

East Texas A&M University football special teams coordinator and chief of staff Dr. Jack Welch has resigned from East Texas A&M to become the general manager and assistant head coach for the San Antonio Caballeros of the International Football Alliance. Dr. Welch spent five seasons as the Lions special teams coordinator and served as the program’s chief of staff for the past two seasons.

HIGH SCHOOL

A coach who spent decades leading teams in Port Arthur and Tyler to lofty achievements while mentoring young student-athletes to reach their highest potential has died. Mike Owens passed away Monday night, according to Tyler ISD. He began his head coaching career 1982 at Port Arthur’s Thomas Jefferson High School. He remained at TJ for 14 years and led the Yellowjackets to five playoff appearances. Owens took over the Tyler Lee program from 1996-2010. They won five district championships and a state football title in 2004, the school’s first.

The Mount Pleasant High School and Junior High Cheerleaders competed in the Crandall Invitational last Saturday, and both teams placed in the top three in their divisions. MPHS competed in the 5A division and finished in third place, only .6 back from second place and .9 back from first. The MPJH and MPHS Cheer Squads will compete again at the Dallas NCA State of Texas competition in preparation for the UIL State Championships on January 17-18 in Fort Worth. Karissa Lopez and Leigh Baker are MPISD Cheer coaches.
