COLLEGE

According to the University of Texas, they tasked a 24-person committee responding to “four charges” related to the school’s alma mater. After months of controversy, the “The Eyes of Texas” school song remains on the 40 acres of UT. They concluded that while it has links to minstrel shows with some white students wearing blackface, the music itself is not “overtly racist.” Some are not happy with the decision.

HIGH SCHOOL

The UIL Girls’ Basketball State Tournament starts this morning at the Alamodome in San Antonio. First up is Dodd City (31-0), taking on Nazareth (27-4) for Conference 1A Final. The game time is 10:00 am.

We have another coach that has claimed his 300th career win. First, it was Mt Pleasant’s softball Coach Jeremy Tarrant. Now it’s Paris Wildcats’ baseball Coach Bill Sikes. Sikes says he hopes the next 300 don’t take as long.
