OLYMPICS

With just over two weeks before the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics, residents of the Chinese capital say they’re disappointed at not being able to attend events because of coronavirus restrictions. Organizers announced Monday that they would not sell tickets to the general public, and only selected spectators will be allowed. In addition, they sealed off access to the famed National Stadium, known as the Bird’s Nest, and indoor venues in the heart of Beijing.

The Mount Pleasant Tigers improved their district record to 3-1 on Friday with a victory over the visiting Pine Tree Pirates to move into a tie for second place with Sulphur Springs. The Tigers will face their most challenging week of district hosting Sulphur Springs (19-8, 3-1) on Tuesday and traveling to league-leading Hallsville (24-2, 4-0) on Friday. Mt Pleasant (4-1) came from a 14-point deficit in the fourth to beat Sulphur Springs (3-2) 53-51 Tuesday. Longview upset Hallsville (4-1) 59-49 Tuesday. Friday is huge as Hallsville and Mt Pleasant settle the question!
