Habitat for Humanity’s “A Brush with Kindness” Program seeks volunteers to improve our community one house at a time. Gather your family, friends, co-workers, and church group to help prepare and paint the home of a local, low-income family. All materials are provided, so come dressed to mess and prepared to work hard. Upcoming project dates (all work begins at 8 am):

Cruise Night – Blast from the Past Friday June 10 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. It’s a Giant 50’s Party Featuring Dale Cummings, “The C” singing all of your favorite hits of the 50’s & 60’s. Cruise participants are automatically registered in a drawing for a flat screen HDTV, to be given away at the Friday night cruise complements of NAPA. 

The Northeast Texas 9th Annual Classic Car Show is tomorrow at the Love Civic Center from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM. There’ll be door Prizes – Food – Family Fun – Free Admission – Free Parking, rain or shine.  The event is sponsored by  Red River Valley Veterans Memorial Foundation and proceeds benefit the memorial.


A Community Baby Shower hosted by Paris Regional Medical Center  will be held Sunday from 2-4pm at the  WOmen’s and Children’s Hospital Lewis Hall. It’s for all  Mom’s and Dad’s who are expecting, planning or recently had a baby.  There will be lots of  information for new parents as well as games, gifts and raffle prizes.


Norma Renfro, author of “Remembering Crowley Hill” will have a book signing on Saturday, June 11 from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at the Lamar County Genealogy Library.  The book is an amazing collection of memories and pictures from the beginning of Crowley Hill until present day.

As a child, Ms. Renfro lived in the care of Eddie and Delia Crowley for almost 7 years.  She continued to be under the care of Eddie Crowley until his death.  She founded and operated the Gingerbread House as a commercial day care until she went to work for the postal service.  She was there until her retirement due to a disability.  Since then she Has spent her time writing short stories and poetry.

The Lamar County Genealogical Society and Library is located in the south entrance to the historic Santa Fe Depot, 1135 Bonham St., Paris, Texas.  The Lamar County Genealogy Library is open Wednesday-Friday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. In addition, on the second and fourth Thursday of the month the library has extended hours of 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. for FREE guided research assistance.
