What’s Happening This Weekend In Paris

 

Paris Community Theatre is presenting Neil Simon’s “Rumors.” Performances are this FridaySunday. Friday and Saturday performances start at7:30 pm and Sunday performances begin at 2:30 pm. “Rumors” contain adult language and situation, and parental discretion advised. Through this Saturday (Apr 14) the City of Paris will have two drop-off locations for residents to dump trash at no cost! They are open daily from8:00 am to 5:00 pm. You will need your current water bill to unload. Hazardous materials such as paint, chemicals or oil are not accepted. You may discard tires, batteries, and appliances without compressors. Receiving sites are 1100-Block Bonham at the Depot and 25th NE Water Tower Street.

Paris Police Department is looking for additional citizens who may be interested in how the department goes about its duties. There will be classroom presentations which focus on constitutional law, Uniform Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations, Communications and other specialized units in the office. Persons who complete the academy have the opportunity to join the police academy alumni association and even become citizens on patrol volunteers. CPA Applications are on the City of Paris website.

Registration for enrollment in the Lamar County Head Start Program will be Monday (Mar 19) through Friday (Apr 27), weekdays only. Register the following ways. In person from 8:30 am. until 12:00 pm. No registrations will be accepted after 12:00 pm. By phone at 903-737-7469, contact person Brenda Hardy, from 8:30 am until 12:00 pm. Online at www.lch.parisisd.net. The website is available 24 hours a day, Monday through Sunday. When Head Start receives your online application, the staff will call you to set up an appointment to complete the registration.

The Fifth Annual Richard Graham Memorial Hog baying is Saturday (Apr 14). It is in honor of Richard and his most famous passion for hog hunting. Proceeds go toward a scholarship for a high school senior. Volunteers and donations are welcome. It takes place in the RG Memorial Hog Baying Arena east of Antlers on Hwy-3 about a half mile on 4180 or North Greenwood Road. Registration begins at 10:00 am with baying at 11:00 am. The payout is 65%. Admission is $5 with children under ten free. (Glenn Graham 580-239-2687 FB – Richard’s Hog Baying Arena)

The Girls’ Softball in Pairs is a Slow-Pitch Softball League that has been in operation since 1976. The League is currently played on the campus of Chisum ISD and is open to ALL girls in the area. Saturday (Apr 14) from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm is Sign-Up for ALL girls aged 9-18 for Pre-Teen and Teen Spring Leagues. It is at the T-Shirt Shoppe located at 410 Collegiate Street in Paris. The fee is only $45 per player, and new players need to bring a copy of their birth certificate or a copy of their State Issued ID. If you have any questions, please call or Text 903-249-1117.

The Detroit Community Food Pantry will distribute food items to qualified families and individuals on Tuesday (Apr 17) from 3:00 until 5:00 pm at the New Hope Baptist Church, F.M. 410 South in Detroit. Any low-income families living in Detroit and the surrounding area are welcome to come and fill out an application during the hours the food pantry is in operation. You can send donations to The Detroit Community Food Pantry, P.O. Box 151, Detroit, TX 75436. Those who come early should not expect to receive their items on arrival. Please bring sacks or boxes for the garden produce that will also be available.

The United Way of Lamar County is proud to announce their first “Annual Live United 5k Run/Walk” on Saturday (Apr 21) at 8:00 am at the Trail de Paris. Jenny Wilson, Executive Director of the UWLC, stated, “We are so excited to be holding our first 5k. Not only does this promote health, but all the funds raised will benefit our annual Day of Caring.

This year’s “Day of Caring” will be at the New Hope Center on Saturday (Jun 9).” Runners and walkers can pre-register for $25 by mailing in a registration form to P.O. Box 1, Paris 75461 or dropping off their registration and payment at the United Way office, located at 2340 Lamar Avenue.  All those who pre-register are guaranteed a t-shirt.  Student registration fee is $10 and registration the day of the race is $30.

Texas Oncology, Lamar National Bank, Pools & More, eParisExtra.com, and Everett Toyota of Paris are sponsoring the 5k.
