On June 10, 2018, at approximately 11:08 pm, Troopers responded to a one-vehicle fatal crash on FM-2088 in Upshur County 6.9 miles northwest of Gilmer. Reportedly the driver of a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, identified as David Allen Vance, 37, of Winnsboro, was traveling westbound on FM-2088 when for an unknown reason, the vehicle veered off the roadway to the right in a curve. The vehicle struck a creek embankment and caught fire. The driver was pronounced at the scene by JP Rhonda Welch, he was taken to Croley Funeral Home in Gilmer. The crash remains under investigation.
