The governor’s public safety office will distribute $4.5 million in grants to East Texas programs and nonprofits. According to the East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG), the office will disburse federal and state funds to increase public safety and support people who were victims of crime.
ETCOG’s Public Safety Division helps groups submit applications for grants. The ETCOG Criminal Justice Advisory Committee and Homeland Security Advisory Committee judge the applications. The $4.5 million distributed to East Texas is for the Victims of Crime Act, Justice Assistance, Violence Against Women Act, Juvenile Assistance, and Homeland Security. In addition, the Winnsboro Police Department will receive over $20,000.
