Work Begins Next Week on FM 197 in Lamar County
PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that work to repair, resurface and widen a portion FM 197 in Lamar County is set to begin April 16.
The contractor, Fritcher Construction Services, Flint, Texas, was granted 128 working days to complete this project valued at more than $2.3 million. The target completion date is November 2018, weather permitting, officials said.
The project will extend along FM 197 from Parsons Creek to FM 906, approximately seven miles. The contractor will perform spot base repair and pavement resurfacing for about 2.8 miles, beginning at Parsons Creek. The remaining 4.2 miles of this project will entail reconstructing and widening the existing surface from 22 feet to 24 feet and upgrading existing drainage structures to accommodate the difference.
Workers will maintain access to adjacent properties at all times, officials said, and the roadway will be left open to traffic at all times. The work will require temporary one-way, day-time lane closures at times, but flaggers will be in place to direct traffic when closures occur.
Motorists who frequently travel in this area are asked to remain alert and pay particular attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
