Millennials Concerned About Privacy, But Lax On Security

 

A survey by Rivetz found that Americans are incredibly reliant on their smartphones: two-thirds of respondents were willing to allow a friend to borrow their car for 24 hours, but the same percentage were not willing to allow a friend to borrow their smartphone for the same amount of time. If their smartphone was stolen, more than 90% of respondents said they would find it important or extremely important to prevent someone from accessing the content on their smartphone if they lost it. Other findings:

  • 66% of Gen Xers, 62% of Baby Boomers, and 33% of Millennials said they thought it was important that all of their IoT devices communicated with one another securely
  • 14% of Millennials and Gen Xers, and just 7% of Baby Boomers reported staying signed into online banking accounts
  • 71% of all respondents said they did not believe their data is secure if they sign in on a device they don’t own
  • 91% say they believe keeping their data secure is their duty alone
  • 92% feel two-factor authentication (2FA) keeps their data more secure
  • Also, 92% feel that it’s worth it, in the long run, to take a little longer to log into their accounts to avoid data breaches in the future
