Art For A Grand Opening

Chief Gary Batton and artist Jane Semple Umsted discuss her latest artwork, “Sacred Journey” and “Sacred Vision,” as the sculptures are set into place Wednesday in front of the new Choctaw Nation Headquarters, 1802 Chukka Hina in Durant. The 25-foot bronzes represent a pole, or iti fabvssa, that according to Choctaw historical migration stories would guide them to a new home. The sculptures, produced at Hefestus Fine Arts of Springtown, Texas, can be viewed at the public grand opening of the new facility at 10:00 am Tuesday, June 26.
