There is fear and apprehension as Texas public schools return to class this week amid rising COVID cases. Mark Wiggins of the Association of Texas Professional Educators wishes the state would allow local districts more control over the rules. He says federal funding is making its way to school districts on personal protective gear. The big question is, what will districts be allowed to do? They don’t want the state to micromanage the response to the Omicron variant. Texas now has 4.75 million positive cases and is projected to pass five million by the end of the week. Texas now leads the nation in child COVID-19 hospitalizations.
