PCT Announces the 2017-18 Season

(PARIS, Texas) – The Paris Community Theatre (PCT) is proud to announce the 2017-18 season. For 41 years, PCT has been committed to bringing quality, live theater in Northeast Texas.

The Foreigner, by Larry Shue – A fun, two-act play set in a fishing lodge in rural Tilghman County, Georgia where two Englishmen, Froggy, and Charlie, arrive as guests. The shy Charlie agreed to accompany Froggy on the trip after his sick wife begged him to go. (Aug 18-27, 2017). The Foreigner is sponsored by Peoples Bank, Pools and More

Lionel Bart’s Oliver! – In this award-winning adaptation of the Broadway musical based on the Charles Dickens novel, 9-year-old orphan Oliver Twist falls in with a group of street-urchin pickpockets led by the Artful Dodger and masterminded by the criminal Fagin. When Oliver’s intended mark, Mr. Brownlow takes pity on the lad and offers him a home, Fagin’s henchman Bill Sikes plots to kidnap him. (Sept 29-Oct 8, 2017). Kimberly-Clark, Young Title Company, First Federal Community Bank, Edward Jones – Stephen Gerrald and Malnory and McNeal are sponsoring Lionel Bart’s, Oliver.

Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck – Set in the Great Depression this moving play tells the story of George Milton and Lennie Small, two displaced migrant ranch workers, who move from place to place in California in search of new job opportunities. (Feb 2-11, 2018) Of Mice and Men is sponsored by Ameriprise Financial and Texas Oncology.

Rumors, by Neil Simon – In this hilarious Neil Simon play, Charley and Myra Brock are celebrating their 10th anniversary and have invited all their good friends. Chris and Ken Gorman, a legal couple, are the first ones to arrive. They show up only to find that Myra is missing and Charley has “accidentally” shot himself in the ear. Charley is unconscious and so unable to tell them what happened. In the end, all the guests are complicit in a cover-up that no one even really understands. (April 6-15, 2018). Harrison Walker Harper and Lamar National Bank are the sponsors of Rumors.

Red, White & Tuna, by Ed Howard, Joe Sears, and Jaston Williams – This is the third in a series of comedic plays each set in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas, the “third-smallest” town in the state. The plays are a funny and satirical look at small-town, Southern life and attitudes. (June 15-24, 2018). Sponsored by Love Small Animal Hospital, Turner Pipe and Guaranty Bank and Trust.

In addition to the regular season and not included in the season ticket package, PCT has a special one weekend “Christmas at the Plaza” featuring A Charlie Brown Christmas. Based on the classic animated television special A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS, the stage adaptation faithfully comes to life, in which Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts Gang discover the true meaning of Christmas. (December 14-17). Sponsored by Liberty National Bank, Paris Cardiology and Everett Toyota.

PCT Off Plaza presents Inherit the Wind, by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee – This exceptional performance is also not part of the season ticket package and tells the story based on the real-life 1925 Scopes “Monkey” Trial. Two great lawyers argue the case for and against a science teacher accused of the crime of teaching evolution. (Spring 2018) Sponsored by Dr. & Dr. Greg and Amanda Green; Gary and Emily O’Connor.

Finally, PCT is proud to announce the Second Annual Shakespeare in the Park which is in the spring of 2018. This weekend of Shakespeare will be held at Bywaters Park and is free to the public.
