A 17-year-old girl escaped from a moving patrol unit that was transporting her to the Upshur County Jail Wednesday morning. She had been arrested for criminal mischief and had injured her wrist during a domestic incident. The officer didn’t handcuff her because of her calm demeanor during the arrest. The girl was able to lower the rear window and reportedly jumped out of the patrol unit and ran away from the deputy. A passing driver picked her up after she told the driver that someone was trying to kill her. Police located the vehicle, handcuffed the girl, and took her to jail. They released the driver with no charges.
