Two hundred and seventeen NETBIO cattle producers were selling 5,287 head of pre-conditioned calves and yearlings at the Northeast Texas Beef Improvement Organization’s sale held Friday (July 15) at the Sulphur Springs Livestock Auction.

“We had a good sale, and the market on all classes was good,” said David Fowler, co-owner of the livestock commission. A total of 34 buyers paid $903.38 per head for the cattle.

Three buyers from the very active Internet viewing audience purchased 1,197 head of the pre-conditioned cattle. Fowler said very few of the calves would go to graze. “Most of them are going to growing yards or feed yards,” he said.

The grass is in short supply in all parts of the country, and many cattle are selling everywhere, so Fowler added that we are fortunate to have a good market still.

Three more NEBIO Pre-conditioned Calf and Yearling Sales will happen this year. The booster shot deadline for cattle in this sale is August 16. The next deal will be on Friday, September 16, with another sale on October 21, with the booster shot deadline of September 21.

The final sale of this year is the anniversary sale, slated for November 18. Producers need to wean those calves by September 18 and give the last booster shot by October 18. The anniversary sale includes a BBQ lunch with all the trimmings. All the deals are at the Sulphur Springs Livestock Commission and begin at 1:00 pm.

The first NETBIO pre-conditioned Stocker and Feeder Calf sale for 2023 has been scheduled and will be on Friday, January 20, 2023. Cattle to be sold in this sale will need booster shots by December 20, 2022.

Producers who plan to sell cattle in one of the upcoming sales should call the market center and reserve their ear tags. That number is 903-885-2455.

The NETBIO Pre-Conditioned Stocker and Feeder Calf Sale give producers/members of the organization a market to offer their pre-conditioned calves and yearlings in load lot quantities. It is the marketing arm for members of the organization. NETBIO holds eight pre-conditioned calf sales per year,
