HS Basketball Plus Mavs Win As Luka Announced As An All-Star

Tonight Paris High welcomes Pleasant Grove to Wildcat gym for both girls and boys games. Those games will be broadcast on Mix 107.7 with the girls’ game starting at approximately 6:00 pm.

In other district action North Lamar welcomes Pittsburg to town. The girls start at 6:00 pm with the boys following.

Chisum will travel to Mt Vernon for both games. While Cooper hosts Commerce.

Clarksville hosts Bowie in district play and McLeod travels to Detroit. The Honey Grove girl’s game with S&S has been canceled.

The Honey Grove boys, Prairiland girls, and boys as well as both Rivercrest teams, have a bye tonight.

In soccer, Mt Pleasant boys host Pittsburg at 5:30 pm while the girls are on the road to Jacksonville with a 4:30 pm start. Mt Pleasant’s tennis team is at Hallsville this morning (Friday) at 8:00.

Paris High is hosting a three-day volleyball camp on June 23-25. This is for students who are going into the sixth through the 12th grade for the next school year. Jennifer McGuyre, who played collegiately at Hawaii and is married to Baylor head volleyball coach Ryan McGuyre, will provide each athlete with team-building skills including off the court activities, drills and much more. The NBA All-Star starters were revealed last night and second-year player Luka Doncic was selected to start. He’s only the 10th Maverick to be voted an All-Star. He joins Jason Kidd as only the second player in Maverick’s history to be voted as a starter. After the announcement, Dallas defeated Portland 133-125. Luka scored 27 points and had nine assists and six rebounds. Damian Lillard dropped 47 in the loss. It followed his 61 points he scored the previous game.

Thursday, American Southwest Conference league’s head coaches and directors of sports information voted. The results indicate that East Texas Baptist and Mary Hardin-Baylor are picked to win the 2020 American Southwest Conference East and West Divisions, respectively. The Tigers are coming off their eighth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship after going 39-6 in 2019 and 26-1 in conference play. They received 141 points and 21 out of 24 first-place votes. They picked LeTourneau second in the East Division with 105 points and two first-place votes.

REGION XIV

Men’s Basketball

Navarro and Jacksonville are leading the East and South Zones respectively. Paris and Bossier Parish are tied at No. 6. Paris lost to Tyler 89-65 Wednesday and host Navarro at 4:00 pm Saturday.

Trinity Valley leads the Women’s standings at 8-0, Paris is tied with Kilgore, and Angelina at 4-4. Paris women are coming off a win Wednesday, 73-55 over Coastal Bend and are on the road Saturday visiting Blinn at 2:00 pm.

Open tryouts for the Paris Junior College men’s and women’s soccer teams will be held at Noyes Stadium tomorrow. The women’s audition will be from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, and the men’s start at 1:00 pm until 4:00. Those wishing to try out should already be a high school graduate or a 2020 graduating senior. Those under 18 need to be accompanied by their guardian.
