Add 30 Minutes Drive Time On US 271

We are continuing to work a crash involving two truck tractor semi-trailers and a pick-up truck towing a utility trailer on Hwy-271 near Lavender Road in Upshur County. The accident occurred at approx. 3:30 am. There is one confirmed deceased. The preliminary crash investigation revealed that a truck tractor semi-trailer, traveling north on Hwy-271 crossed into the oncoming lanes of traffic, sideswiping another truck tractor semi-trailer that was traveling south. The northbound truck tractors towed trailer tipped over in the roadway across both northbound lanes of traffic, spilling its load of chicken parts. A short time later, a pickup truck pulling a utility trailer traveling north on Hwy-271, struck the trailer that was blocking the lanes of traffic. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not notified the next of kin. At this time, Hazmat crews are working to clean the roadway. FM-2088 on FM-2454 is used to divert traffic around the area, and HWY 155 is diverting traffic onto FM-2263 to FM-593. This detour is adding about 30 minutes travel time between Pittsburg and Gilmer.
