MPHS Boys JV Golf Team Takes Second Place at MPCC

The Mount Pleasant High School JV Boys and Varsity Girls Golf Teams played at the Mt Pleasant Country Club on Monday, November 5th. The JV Boys team finished 2nd with freshman, Jackson Stone, placing 1st individually. Stone shot an 83, followed by Connor Brison with 105, Hudson Dyke with 111, Hunter Razor with 115, and Jacob Elliott with 120.
In Varsity Girls, Grelyn Goolsby also finished 1st individually shooting an 87.

MPHS UIL Places Second at Lindale Invitational

The Mount Pleasant High School UIL Academic team was back in action on Saturday, November 3 at the Lindale Invitational held on the Lindale High School campus. Overall, the team took second place at the tournament.

The Speech and Debate team took 1st place as a team. Reid Pinckard placed 5th in LD Debate. Audrey Courreges took 6th place in Persuasive Extemporaneous Speaking. In Informative Extemporaneous Speaking, Ryan Sharp placed 4th. In Poetry Interpretation, Jaquacy Minter took 1st Place. In Dramatic Interpretation, Jaquacy Minter placed 1st, Aslin Barrientos placed 3rd, and Jonathan Godbolt placed 4th. In Humorous Interpretation, Ryan Sharp placed 1st, Skylee Ford placed 5th, and Jaquacy Minter took 6th. In Program of Oral Interpretation, Jaquacy Minter was 2nd, Ryan Sharp was 3rd, Skylee Ford was 4th, Aslin Barrientos was 5th, and Jonathan Godbolt was 6th.

The Spelling team took 1st place as a team. Individually, Rocio Hernandez placed 1st, and Anna Harris placed 5th.

The Social Studies team placed 3rd as a team. Individually, Erica Salazar placed 6th.

In Math, Jose Liera placed 3rd in Calculator Applications and 4th in Mathematics. In Journalism, Rebecca Yox placed 4th in Editorials while Megan Adams placed 4th in Copy Editing.

MPHS FFA Student Advances to Area Contest

Mount Pleasant High School senior FFA member, Cheyenne Clark, placed 1st in Job Interview at the District FFA Leadership Development Contest on November 6th at North Hopkins High School. She has advanced to the Area FFA LDE Contest on November 14 in Marshall.

The purpose of the FFA Job Interview Event is for FFA members to develop, practice, and demonstrate skills needed while seeking employment in the Agricultural Industry. Each part of the contest simulates real-world activities that will be used by real-world employers. Students had to fill out a job application, prepare a cover letter and resume, participate in a personal interview and a telephone interview, and write a follow-up letter during the contest.

MPJHS Band Students Make All-Region Band

Forty-one Mt. Pleasant Junior High School band students have qualified for the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region IV Middle School All-Region Band, a school record. Twenty-six students qualified for the Symphonic Band and fifteen qualified for the Concert Band.

Ten students earned 1st chair, essentially 1st place in their category. Eight of those earned 1st chair in the Symphonic Band: Karli Hill on Flute, Shpat Zeqaj on Oboe, Manoa Bagsic on Bb Clarinet, Kayla Jackson on Bass Clarinet, Hannah Bowles on Contr-Bass Clarinet, Ezequiel Castaneda on Alto Saxophone, Clinton Debord on Trumpet, and David Macareno on Trombone.  Javier Vazquez earned 1st chair on Baritone Saxophone, and Luis Garcia won 1st chair on Trombone in the Concert Band.

This is the most significant number of students to earn 1st chairs in the history of the MPJH Band program. MPJHS also earned more 1st chairs than all the participating schools.

“I am so proud of all the MPJH students who auditioned for the All-Region bands,” said MPJHS Band Director Karen Luckett.  “We took 61 students to Pine Tree JH School for the auditions. Out of 61 students, 41 of them earned chairs in the All-Region bands! All of these students put in an extensive amount of time and effort to prepare for these auditions. We have been preparing for them since the second day of school. I am so ecstatic that so many of them auditioned. I congratulate all of these students whether they made the All-Region bands or not.”
