City of Reno Sued By House Fire Victims

KXII is reporting that a Lamar County couple who lost their home to a fire in March of 2014 has filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Reno and Reno Police Chief Matt Birch.  John and Stephanie Toppings allege in their lawsuit, that Birch would not allow them to attempt to retrieve personal belongings when their house first caught  fire and threatened to arrest them if they went back inside the home after the fire was out. The cause of the fire was ruled accidental. Chief Birch told us it was against city policy to comment on pending litigation.
