Constable’s Office Investigated

On Oct 18, 2021, the Smith County District Attorney’s Office requested assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Ranger Division into possible criminal conduct of several officers with the Smith County Precinct #1 Constable Office. Through the investigation, they determined that Precinct #1 Constable Curtis Traylor- Harris, Chief Deputy Laquenda Banks, and Sergeant Derrick Holman, while on duty, acted together in the theft of personal property from a residence in the City of Tyler. As a result, they charged all three with larceny offenses over $750 but less than $2,500 by a Public Servant, Official Oppression, and Abuse of Official Capacity. The highest charged theft offense is a State Jail Felony and is punishable by no more than two years or less than 180 days confinement in a state jail and a fine not to exceed $10,000. The investigation remains ongoing.
