Former Miss Black Texas Sues City Of Commerce, Ex-Chief Over Arrest

The Greenville Herald Banner is reporting that a former Miss Black Texas is suing the City of Commerce and former Police Chief Kerry Crews in federal court. Carmen Ponder, who was a student at Texas A&M-Commerce, is alleging in her lawsuit that her arrest in 2017 during an incident in the Walmart parking lot was illegal and violated her fourth amendment rights prohibiting unlawful search and seizure. She is seeking $300,000 from the city and $150,000 from Crews.
