Local Teams Advance in Playoffs Plus Rangers Sweep Tigers

Paris – High school baseball and softball playoffs are in full swing and several teams will be advancing. The North Lamar Pantherette softball team sweeps the Crandall Lady Pirates in the area round, winning game one 15-4 followed by an 8-1 win on Saturday. The Pantherette’s will take on district rival Atlanta this weekend. The North Lamar baseball team shut out Springs Hill 5-0 and will square off with Mabank in the area round. And the Paris Wildcats scorch Gilmer in a two game sweep 4-0 and 5-0. The Wildcats are up against Athens this weekend.

Meanwhile, the Honey Grove Lady Warriors season comes to an end in a two game sweep to Reisel while Rivercrest softball fall to Beckville.

Mount Pleasant – The Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs pick up a two game sweep over Van Alstyne in the Area round 13-10 and 12-0. The Lady Mustangs advance to take on the Redwater Lady Dragons in the regional quarterfinals. And the Pittsburg Pirate baseball team sweeps district 16-4A champion Bullard 9-3 and 3-1 advancing to the are around against either Canton or Mabank.

Meanwhile, the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers is eliminated by Mansfield Legacy 9-4. The Rivercrest Lady Rebels season ends at the hands of Beckville 9-0. And the Gilmer Buckeyes get swept by the Paris Wildcats 4-0 and 5-0.

Sulphur Springs – Sulphur Springs High School Head Soccer Coach Andy Holt is leaving after 14 years with the Wildcats. Holt will be taking over the head coaching position at Frisco-Wakeland, which is considered a soccer powerhouse.

In softball and baseball playoffs the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats throttle Waxihachie 14-4. The area round victory for the Lady Cat softball team sets up a showdown against Manfield Legacy in the Regional Quarterfinals. Meanwhile the Commerce Lady Tigers season comes to an end at the hands of Hooks 9-3 and the Lone Oak softball team was eliminated against Redwater 9-1.

Yesterday the Texas Rangers complete a three game sweep of the Detroit Tigers after an 8-3 win. The Rangers trailed late the in the game until Bobby Wilson did something a Texas Ranger hadn’t done in a season and a half. Hit a grand slam home run. The first since August of 2014 for the Rangers. Texas is now 18-14 on the season and will begin a three game home series against the Chicago White Sox tonight. First pitch on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm is set for 7:05.

The Dallas Stars find themselves facing elimination after falling Saturday 4-1 to St. Louis. The Blues now hold a 3-2 series lead with game six set for tonight with puck drop at 7pm.

And yesterday the torch was carried to begin the Invictus Games. It’s a worldwide Olympic style competition featuring over 500 wounded, ill and injured military athletes from 14 difference nations. The Invictus Games will be played through May 12th in Orlando, Florida.
