New Greenville City Manager

 

 

The Greenville City Council appointed Summer Spurlock as the next City Manager at the June 12, 2018 council meeting. Her appointment is effective immediately.

Spurlock was originally hired as Administrative Services/Finance Director for the City of Greenville on November 15, 2015, and has been serving as Interim City Manager since March of this year.

Spurlock began her career at Texas A & M University-Commerce as Director of Business for the athletic department. In May 2013, she became the Finance Director for the City of Commerce. Prior to her service for the City of Commerce, Spurlock served as the Assistant Finance Manager at MetroStat Diagnostic Services and Clinical Laboratories.

Spurlock graduated from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Accounting. Subsequently, she earned a Master’s of Science in Finance in

  1. She has twelve years experience working in finance and accounting, eight of those as Finance Director.

Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Ransom praised Spurlock’s previous work with the City including her interaction and communication with the City Council and Department Heads. He explained that “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that extends across all City functions. This past year she led the evaluation and subsequent award of several key City contracts. Her financial perspective will be especially valuable as the City faces multiple growth challenges in the future. We officially welcome Summer to her new position with the City of Greenville.”

Spurlock has lived in the Greenville area for the past 18 years. She and her husband will soon relocate to within the City Limits of Greenville with their children, Damon age 10 and Jacob age 6. In response to her appointment as City Manager, Spurlock said “I am grateful to the City Council for the confidence they have expressed in me and excited about the opportunity. The City is in the midst of rapid growth and change and I’m looking forward to being part of that.”
