New Van Zandt County Sheriff

Van Zandt County Commissioners appointed Joe Carter to be the new sheriff. He’ll take over his duties at midnight on May 14. Carter is a retired Game Warden and has worked for the sheriff’s office at the courthouse since 2017. He replaces Steve Hendrix, who had resigned after they charged him with lying to a Texas Ranger investigating the alleged beating of a suspect by a former chief deputy.
