Monday night at 11:42 pm, Troopers responded to a one-vehicle fatal crash on US-80, 3.9 miles east of Mineola in Wood County. Preliminary crash investigation revealed that the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet C2500, Jonathan Wade Burge, 45, of Mineola, was traveling east on US-80 at a high rate of speed when for a yet to be determined reason, the driver veered into the center median where the vehicle struck a culvert and rolled several times. Burge, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and pronounced at the scene by Judge Cindy Weems and transported to Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola. The crash remains under investigation.
