Paris Regional Medical Center Celebrates 2000th Robotic Assisted Surgical Case

On Thursday, December 14, 2017, Paris Regional Medical Center’s Robotic-Assisted Surgery Team completed its 2000th surgical case. The historical event was led by Dr. Robert Young, general surgeon, and First Asst. Bethany Sloan and Jasz Blake. Dr. Young is one of ten physicians at Paris Regional Medical Center that utilize the minimally invasive da Vinci® Surgical System to perform surgeries that result in smaller incisions and reduced healing time.

“Our team has accomplished an incredible feat by completing 2000 robotic-assisted surgeries in a span of three years. In the first two years alone, we grew to be the busiest hospital in the state of Texas that utilizes a single robot!” said Steve Hyde, CEO. “Greater precision, less pain, and quicker recoveries. The best of all worlds, here in your own backyard,” the PRMC CEO said. ” The da Vinci® system is 100% physician-operated and utilizes robotic technology to give our surgeons the advantage of magnified 3D imagery, greater surgical precision, and the ability to perform complex procedures through a few tiny incisions,” John T. Patterson, MHA BSN RN CASC Director of Surgical Services.

During these procedures, the surgeon sits comfortably at a console, viewing 3D, high-definition images of the patient’s anatomy. The surgeon uses controls below the viewer to move the instrument arms and camera. In real-time, the system translates the surgeon’s hand, wrist and finger movements into more precise movements of the miniaturized instruments inside the patient. Some of the surgical procedures that utilize the robot are hysterectomy, hernia, and gallbladder removal. Paris Regional Medical Center offers some of the most comprehensive health and wellness care in Northeast Texas and Southeast Oklahoma. Its campuses offer general acute-care services, including cardiovascular, women’s health, and rehabilitation, surgical, and pediatric services.
