A 50 acre grass fire broke out around 4 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of FM 69 and FM 515 in Rains County. It apparently started with an unattended outdoor trash or brush burn. . Firefighters from five volunteer departments and the Texas Forest Service battled the blaze for about four hours before getting it under control and extinguishing it. Firefighters had a difficult time reaching all areas of the fire due to wet ground in some areas.
