Sheriff Identifies Inmate Who Dies

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office identified Quincy Butler, 44, of New Orleans, as the inmate found hanging in his cell. He was removed from life support at around 11:00 Tuesday morning and died. Officials had Butler on suicide watch and nine minutes went by before they found him. Jailers are required to check every ten minutes.
