South Texas KIller’s October 30 Execution Stayed

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has granted a stay of execution for a Texas inmate who fatally stabbed an 85-year-old woman in 1998 in an attempt to steal more than $600,000 she had hidden in her Brownsville home. The ruling in favor of Ruben Gutierrez was issued after the panel found problems with the death warrant issued to schedule his Oct. 30 execution.
