Paris Mayor Dr. A.J. Hashmi opened the discussion about removing two board members from the Historical Commission last night by asking if either of the men had committed any crimes. When the answer was no, he told the other council members that America is still a democracy and just because there is a difference of opinion is no reason to remove the men from the commission. After discussing the situation, five of the six council persons in attendance voted to keep Skipper Steely and David Alarid on the Historical Commission. Mr. Steely said his effectiveness with the commission will be compromised because of the effort to remove him. He just wanted the city to come up with a plan to take care of demolishing the numerous vacant and substandard housed in Paris instead of one at a time which was not efficient.
