2018 Plant Sale And Garden Show

Feature Plant Announced for 2018 Plant Sale and Garden Show

The Cypress Basin Master Gardeners will hold its Ninth Annual Plant Sale and Garden Show on Saturday (Mar 24) from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The event will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Civic Center, 1800 N. Jefferson Ave., Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Admission is $3.00

This year’s featured plant is the “Raising Sun Redbud” tree (Cercis canadensis). If you are looking for show-stopping color in your landscape, then take a look at this! Pulsating spring heart-shaped foliage colors from deep apricot-orange to yellow and lime-green in the summer months and then turns to golden tones for the late summer month, this ornamental tree is outstanding! This eastern redbud is very resistant to heat and burn and does very well in full sun and it will tolerate light shade. A vigorous grower this variety is hardy in zones 5-9 and very resistant to pest and disease, growing up to 12 feet high and about 8 feet wide and makes it an excellent tree to use in a focal point in your landscape. This variety in late spring produces a pea-type flower, rosy orchid in color and will appear before the foliage in spring and are attractive to bees and butterflies. This tree takes on a full rounded shape at maturity. 4000 plants grown and propagated by our master gardeners will be available for purchase!

Educational programs at the show include Texas Master Gardener Keith Kridler on “Cavity Nesting Birds,” Dr. Joe Masabni from Texas A&M on Vegetable Gardening in Northeast Texas, Dr. Justin Scheiner from Texas A&M on growing grape variety’s for wine in Texas. Also, our Key Note speaker, Howard Garrett “The Dirt Doctor” on Natural Organic Pest Control.
