Lamar County Coronavirus Update 03.01.21

The Paris–Lamar County Health District reports one new death from COVID 19, a 76-year-old woman. During the latest reporting period, there were 38 new and confirmed cases of the virus for a total of 5,863 since testing began. The Texas DSHS reports 236 active cases and 146 fatalities.

Abbott Making Major Announcement

Gov. Greg Abbott says he will make a “statewide announcement” Tuesday (03.02.21) in Lubbock. He visited Monday with small business owners there. Last week, Abbott said he is looking at lifting statewide orders related to the pandemic. That could include the mask mandate and limits on business capacity.

J&J Vaccines Arrive In Texas

The Texas DSHS says 24,000 doses of the new Johnson & Johnson one-dose COVID vaccine will arrive in Texas today. Texas will use at federal vaccination centers in Dallas, Tarrant, and Harris Counties. An additional 200,000 doses will be allotted to Texas next week.

Metroplex Man Faces Forgery In Hopkins County

Sulphur Springs Police arrested a Carrollton man after he tried to cash a forged check for more than $6,000. Christopher Andrew Stachel ran from the police. They charged him with evading arrest, search or transport, forgery, possession of drug paraphernalia, and public intoxication.
