The new federal hiring freeze is prompting concerns for Northeast Texas. The Red River Army Depot in Hooks, which employs more than 4000 people, is one the largest employers in the area and officials are hoping for a resolution that would exempt depot employees from the hiring freeze. Most workers at the deport are on contract and it’s uncertain whether a hiring freeze would affect the depot’s ability to renew those contracts.
