Man Eludes Authorities, Hopkins County Manhunt Called Off

A manhunt for a man who fled from Hopkins County deputies Tuesday morning after a traffic stop on FM 71 near Sulphur Bluff was called off later Tuesday and an additional arrest warrant has been filed. John Maxwell, formerly of Paris and currently said to be residing in Talco was wanted on a warrant for violating his parole. New charges of felony evading  have now been added.  Hopkins and Franklin County deputies, Texas Rangers, state troopers, a DPS helicopter and tracking dogs from several jurisdictions were involved in the search. One other person was reportedly arrested during the incident but no details were available.  Sulphur Bluff schools were briefly locked down.
