Severe weather roared through East Texas Wednesday night bringing with it torrential rains, high winds, large hail, dangerous lightning, and reports of tornadoes. Every county in our listening area reported downed trees, limbs, and electrical lines and there were numerous reports of power outages. There were reports of damage to roofs, vehicles, buildings, and several Tornado, Thunderstorm, and Flash Flood Warnings were issued throughout the area.

Widespread damage was reported in Greenville after a reported tornado roared through town just before 6:00 Tuesday evening. Initial reports from first responders say the downtown area was the hardest hit. Police, sheriff’s deputies, and state troopers have been working together to keep some areas blocked off that have down power lines and poles. There were no reports of serious injuries.

Greenville was hit with major severe weather damage early Wednesday evening. Several churches were having services as the storms roared through, and at least one lost most of its roof. Many buildings in downtown Greenville had serious damage. The Greenville Herald-Banner reports that spotters reported two tornadoes touched down north of the city and headed toward downtown.
