An East Texas Fire Chief has been appointed by Governor Abbott to the Texas Commission On Fire Protection. Longview Fire Chief J.P. Steelman also serves as regional director for the Northeast Region of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association and is an instructor at the Kilgore Fire Academy. The Commission on Fire Safety develops and enforces statewide fire service standards and provides education and assistance for fire department across the state.
