High School Football Plus Cowboys Rip Packers

Paris – The Paris Wildcats and Rivercrest Rebels continue to impress following week 8 of the high school football season. Paris defeated Princeton 35-18 while Rivercrest blows out Linden Kildare 66-34. Both teams are in first place in their respective districts. North Lamar falls to Liberty Eylau 38-14. Prairiland gets mauled by Leonard 57-12. Wolfe City shuts out Honey Grove 45-0. Cooper is blanked by Gunter 57-0 and Detroit falls to Maud 45-18.

Mount Pleasant – The Rivercrest Rebels continue to dominate on the football field following Friday’s 66-34 win over Linden Kildare. The Rebels improve to 7-0 overall on the season and are 2-0 in district play. The Pittsburg Pirates are also 2-0 after beating Spring Hill 54-17. The Paul Pewitt Brahmas are 2-1 with a win over DeKalb, 50-22. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers are 1-3 as they lose 27-7 to Texas High. Mt. Vernon is 3-1, long for the first time in district, 42-6 to Mineola. The Daingerfield Tigers fall to 2-1 with a loss to Hooks 33-20. And the Gilmer Buckeyes win a big rivalry match over Gladewater 35-28.

Sulphur Springs – Area high school football teams returned to action for district play Friday night. The Cumby Trojans bounce back after defeating Dallas Gateway Academy 34-28, giving them a 1-1 record in district play and 7-1 record overall. The Winnsboro Red Raiders pick up a big win over Grand Saline 55-37, improving to 2-2 in district play. The Rains Wildcats pick up their first district win, 44-21 over Ferris. The Cooper Bulldogs fall to Gunter 57-0. Mt. Vernon get beat by Mineola 42-6 and the Greenville Lions lose to Marshall 42-14

In College football, the 9th ranked Texas A&M Commerce Lions beat Western New Mexico 38-24, improving to 4-1 in the Lone Star Conference and 6-1 overall.

Yesterday afternoon the Dallas Cowboys win their fifth straight game, this time 30-16. The offense was once again led by the rookies as Dak Prescott throws three touchdown passes. Running back Zeke Elliott went for 175 total yards on the day. Dallas holds on to first place in the NFC East at 5-1. They’ll have a bye this coming weekend.

The Dallas Stars fall for the first time over the weekend, losing to Colorado 6-5. Tyler Seguin had two goals and an assist in the loss. The Stars, at 1-1 on the season will face off with the Nashville Predators tomorrow night on the road. Puck drop is at 7pm.

And in Major League Baseball playoffs the Cleveland Indians take a 2-0 series lead over the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Championship Series. Game 3 of the ALCS is tonight north of the border at 7pm. And in the National League the LA Dodgers, behind starting pitcher Klayton Kershaw, win last night 1-0 in a pitchers duel over the Chicago Cubs. The NLCS is tied 1-1 and shifts back to L-A tomorrow night.
