HS Football 7 on 7’s Plus Rangers Fall to Angels

Paris – A pair of teams remain in the high school baseball and softball playoffs. The North Lamar Panthers are seeking a regional finals appearance while the Pantherette’s are looking to punch their ticket to Austin. In the softball regional finals North Lamar will take on district 15-4A rival, Pleasant Grove. All games can be heard live on MIX 107.7. Game one is Thursday at Texas A&M-Commerce at 7pm. Game two is Friday at 6pm and game three would follow if necessary.

The Panther baseball team will take on 2nd ranked Argyle in a best of three series. Games on KOYN 93.9 will begin on Friday in Prosper at 6:30. Game two is Saturday at 3pm and game three would follow if needed.

Mount Pleasant – A local athlete has signed his letter of intent to play college football. Rivercrest senior guard, Riley Russell will make his way to Greenville College in Illinois. Russell was a two time 1st team all-district selection on the offensive line as well as a 1st team choice defensively his senior year.

Meanwhile, the Rivercrest Rebels, and Mt. Pleasant Tigers will be in Paris on Thursday evening for 7 on 7 competition. Mt. Pleasant will split into two teams. Joining them will be four Paris high school teams, Prairiland, Chisum, Detroit and Broken Bow, Oklahoma.

Sulphur Springs – The 15-5A All-District selections have been made, headlined by Ryan Humphries being selected by the district coaches as Sophomore of the Year. Another pair of Wildcats landed on the All-District 1st team. Senior Designated Hitter Cole Cooper and Junior Center Fielder Mason Buck.

Sulphur Springs has hired a new soccer coach. Nick Wiggins will receive a promotion from his assistant position with the Wildcats, taking over for the departing Andy Holt. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cat Volleyball team will also bring aboard former PJC head coach Justin Maness.

Last night the Texas Rangers fell to the LA Angels 2-0 at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Derek Holland was dealt the loss despite giving up only two runs in 6 2\3 innings pitched. With the loss the Rangers fall to 25-20 and remain in 2nd place in the AL West, a game and a half behind Seattle. Texas and LA go back at it tonight [on kplt 1490am and 96.3fm]. Martin Perez takes to the hill for the Rangers. First pitch is at 7:05.

In the NBA playoffs the Toronto Raptors even their best of seven series with the Cleveland Cavaliers after winning last night 105-99. The Eastern Conference finals pick back up with game five tomorrow night in Cleveland. The West finals will resume tonight with game four between Golden State and OKC. Tip off is at 8pm.

And the Dallas Cowboys will begin Organized Team Activities today. The off-season practice will include very little pads and hitting, but will focus more on play instillation, and technique work.
