Pantherettes Advance to State Plus Rangers Win Opener in Cleveland

Paris – Over the weekend the North Lamar Pantherette softball team punched their ticket to the state tournament this weekend in Austin. The Pantherette’s defeated district 15-4A rival, Pleasant Grove two games to one. Their first victory was 4-2 in the first game and 5-2 in the third game. The Pantherette’s advance to take on Needville in the State Semi-Finals on Thursday in Austin. First pitch on MIX 107.7 is at noon.

Meanwhile, the North Lamar baseball team saw their season come to an end at the hands of Agyle, dropping the regional semi-final series two games to none.

Mount Pleasant – Senior guard, Justin Zapeda of Mt. Pleasant High School inked his letter of intent to take his basketball career to the next level. Zapeda, who helped the Tigers to a post season birth in his senior season, will be headed to Plymouth, Minnesota where he’ll play at Lutheran Bible College.

Eight Chapel Hill Red Devil baseball players were recognized by district 16-3A coaches. Brenan Dobbs was chosen as the district’s pitcher of the year, while Josh Simmons was 1st team all-district pitcher. Other first teamers were 2nd baseman Tanner Leveque and outfielder Riley Perry.

Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs Wildcat has wrapped up spring football and finished with the spring game on Thursday evening. Team white came away with a 29-3 victory over team blue. Running back Lawrence Worth finished off a 70-yard drive with a 9-yard touchdown run on the games opening possession. Team white added the exclamation point when quarterback Tyler Armstrong hooked up with D. J. Abron on a 49 yard pass. Sulphur Springs football begins the regular season at home at Prim Stadium, August 26th against Sherman.

Yesterday afternoon the Texas Rangers beat the Cleveland Indians 9-2. Ian Desmond got the scoring started with a two run blast in the 1st inning, while Nomar Mazara hit his team leading 9th home run of the season [AUDIO]. With the win the Rangers are 30-21 and are in 1st place in the AL West. The Rangers and Indians are back on the diamond this evening [on kplt1490am and 96.3fm]. First pitch is set for 5:10pm Central Time.

Last night in the NBA the Golden State Warriors complete one of the greatest comebacks in NBA History, winning game 7 of the Western Conference Finals 96-88. Steph Curry led the way with 36 points and eight assists. OKC lead the series 3-1 before the Warriors won three straight to set up a rematch of last years finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After the expected termination of head coach Art Briles, Baylor University has named former Wake Forrest coach Jim Grobe as their interim head football coach. On the same day Grobe was appointed Athletic Director Ian McCaw stepped. The moves come after several sexual assault allegations at the University, several of which involving football players.
