Former New York Giants’ Coach Jim Fassel died of a heart attack in Las Vegas. He was named NFL coach of the year 1997 and led the team to the 2001 Super Bowl. Fassel coached the Giants from 1997-2003, leading the team to the Super Bowl after the 2000 season. The Giants lost to the Baltimore Ravens 34-7. According to the Los Angeles Times, Fassel was taken to a hospital in Las Vegas with chest pains and died of a heart attack. Coach Jim Fassel was 71.

Oklahoma won its fourth straight Monday, shrugging off three hitless innings and erupting for a 7-1 win over James Madison to earn a spot in Tuesday’s championship round. According to ESPN Stats & Information research, the Sooners were just the fourth team in the past 29 years to start the WCWS 0-1 and make it to the finals. A few hours later, Florida State became the fifth team to do it, shocking Alabama 8-5.

Texas A&M University-Commerce’s Dominique Ramsey and Amon Simon have been named First Team Preseason All-Americans by Lindy’s Sports college football preview magazine. The Lions are ranked No. 7 in that magazine’s preseason poll. Ramsey earned his preseason All-American honors as an all-purpose player, while Simon is honored as an offensive lineman. Ramsey and Simon were honored as First Team Preseason All-Americans in Lindy’s Sports before the anticipated 2020 season as well before that season was ultimately canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic.
