Texas Senate Passes Paid Parental Leave

The Texas Senate has unanimously passed a bill authorizing paid parental leave to state employees. The bill, authored by Sen. Robert Nichols of Jacksonville, would grant newborn parents six weeks of paid parental leave. The measure also applies to adoptive parents. Currently, state employees with a baby must use accumulated vacation or sick time. The Senate sent the bill to the Texas House of Representatives for consideration.
