High School Basketball Plus Cowboys Prep for Packers

Paris – High school hoops picked back up last night in the Red River Valley. North Lamar boys and girls picked up wins, including a 48-39 win for the Pantherette’s over Liberty Eylau. The boys defeat Princeton in overtime 49-46 before beginning district on Saturday against Paris. The Chisum Mustangs improve to 3-1 in district play, beating Winnsboro 54-39. Prairiland evens their district record to 2-2 after a win over Como-Pickton 44-42.

Mount Pleasant – High school hoops picked back up last night for area teams. In a nail biter, the Chapel Hill Red Devils take down the Mt. Vernon Tigers 57-55. Chapel Hill currently leads district 13-3A. The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers are 5-0 after beating district rival Chapel Hill last night 68-62. The Lady Devils fall to 3-2. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers needed overtime, but dominate in the extra period to defeat Texas High 87-78. Mt. Pleasant is 4-0 in district 16-5A and hit the road to take on Sulphur Springs on Friday for sole possession of first place. The MP Lady Tigers beat Texas High 61-56 and are 5-0 in their march to the playoffs.

Chapel Hill currently leads district 13-3A. The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers are 5-0 after beating district rival Chapel Hill last night 68-62. The Lady Devils fall to 3-2. The Winnsboro Lady Raiders bounced back with a huge win over the Chisum Lady Mustangs 76-37. The Winnsboro boys fall to Chisum 54-39. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats and Lady Cats meet Friday night for 1st place in 16-5A.

Fresh off their first number 1 ranking in Baylor men’s basketball history, the Bears drop their first game of the season last night, 89-68, to West Virginia. Mountaineer forward Nathan Adrian scored 22 points and added three steals. Second ranked Kansas pulls away in the second half to beat Oklahoma 81-70. Number three Villanova beat 15th ranked Xavier 79-54. Number six Kentucky edges out Vanderbilt 87-81 and number 9 Florida State takes down number 7 Duke 88-72.

After winning the front end of a back to back, 6-4, over the L-A Kings, the Dallas Stars fall to Anaheim 2-0. The Stars fall to 17-17-8 with 42 points and sixth place in the Central Division Standings. Dallas returns to the ice tomorrow at the A-A-C against Detroit.

And on Sunday afternoon the Dallas Cowboys play the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs against the Green Bay Packers. Lead by a crop of rookies, including rushing king, Zeke Elliott, Dallas finished as the NFC’s top team at 13-3. While the Cowboys enjoyed a bye in the Wild Card round, Green Bay beat up on the New York Giants 38-13. Kickoff on Sunday afternoon between the Cowboys and Packers [on 101.9 KBUS] is set for 3:40.
