Busy Week For Titus County Deputies

From Titus County Sheriff FB Page

The early morning hours of Saturday, Jun 17, was an opening of a busy weekend for Titus County Deputies when Deputy Jessica Bearden investigated a traffic accident on the 300-block of CR 4325. During the investigation, Deputy Bearden discovered that an adult male had possession of over 89 grams of methamphetamine, at which time he arrested the subject.

In a call unrelated to the drug arrest, during early morning hours on Monday, Jun 19, Deputy Bearden and Deputy Ezequile Campos responded to a report of burglars stealing batteries at Diamond C Trailers. Deputies caught the burglars in the act; however, one of the burglars attempted to flee on foot, but Deputy Campos intercepted him. Upon looking into that theft, they determined the suspects had used a forklift and moved a pallet of batteries to an exterior gate. They managed to get more than 30 batteries loaded into the pickup bed before being caught in the act. Deputies arrested the subjects for several felony offenses, including Burglary of a Building.

The arrest of the two burglars caught stealing the batteries helped to forward an already underway investigation. Before that weekend, C.I.D. Lt. Chris Bragg had initiated an investigation into several recent burglaries and thefts from the trailer manufacturing company. The arrest of the two men caught stealing the batteries led Sheriff’s Investigators to identify another suspect from the ring of burglars.

Later that morning, Lt. Bragg and investigators obtained a search warrant for a residence on the 300-block of West 17th in Mount Pleasant. There, investigators recovered over one hundred band new heavy-duty trailer tires recently stolen from Diamond C Trailers. Investigators arrested the homeowner then for the theft of the tires they had recovered.

Before the end of the following week, investigators solidified evidence that a small but prolific ring of thieves had targeted the trailer manufacturer. The criminals had become quite bold, and greed became their undoing. As of Friday, Jun 23, over 180 stolen tires and wheels have been recovered and returned to the company. An investigation is ongoing to determine how many and to what degree others participated in the criminal activity. More arrests are likely forthcoming.
