ET Elected Official To Be Paid While Serving Prison Time

Taxpayers will have to continue paying the salary of an East Texas elected officials while he sits in a federal prison for income tax violations. Smith County Precinct 1 Constable Henry Jackson will begin his six-month sentence this week. Since he is an elected official, the county government has no authority to remove him from office. The Smith County judge sent a private letter to Jackson asking him to resign and spoke with him personally, but Jackson refused.
