Downtown Food Pantry and the United Way of Lamar County Presenting Monthly “The 5:15” Workshop Series

(PARIS, Texas) – The Downtown Food Pantry and the United Way of Lamar County are partnering to present a series of free workshops called “The 5:15.”

Each free, hour-long workshop will be at the Downtown Food Pantry, located at 124 W. Cherry Street, on the first Tuesday of the month at 5:15 pm. These workshops will be designed to offer advice and tips focusing on health, education and financial stability.

The first workshop, led by Financial Advisor Stephen Gerrald, is entitled “Financial Fitness” and will be held on Tuesday, March 6, at 5:15 pm. This workshop will explain the benefits of budgeting and will take participants step by step through the process of creating a working budget and how to stick to a budget. All participants will receive a door prize for attending the workshop.

Jenny Wilson, Executive Director of the United Way of Lamar County, explained, “Our mission is on meeting the community’s needs affecting health, education, and income. We are hopeful that these workshops will be a step towards giving people the resources and tools they need to be successful in these areas.”

Alicia Jallah, Executive Director of the Downtown Food Pantry, stated, “The Downtown Food Pantry is thrilled to partner with United Way to offer “The 5:15” workshops to our community. We hope that the once a month workshops will be relevant and uplifting to our clients with such timely topics such as budgeting, health and nutrition, tenant rights, and so much more. Through education and collaboration, we can provide even more dignity to our community members.”

Other workshop topics will include job skills training, parenting, resources available in the county, tenant rights, and the Lamar County Health Department will also be leading workshops on health and nutrition.

For businesses interested in sponsorships of the workshop series or providing in-kind coupons or items to be distributed to participants, please call Jenny Wilson at 903-784-6642 or email jenny.wilson@lamarcountyuw.org.
