Ted Thompson

NFL

Former Atlanta Rabbit football standout and Packers general manager Ted Thompson, who drafted Aaron Rodgers, and built the team that won Super Bowl XLV, passed away Wednesday. Ten seasons as a player in the NFL with the Houston Oilers from 1975 to 1984, Thompson served as Packers general manager from 2005 to 2017. The Packers moved him into a consultant role for the 2018 season because of his declining health. The Packers’ hall of fame inducted him in May 2019. Thompson announced that he was suffering from an autonomic disorder, which causes weakness and cognitive issues.

Sunday 24

Tampa Bay at Green Bay FOX 2:05 pm

Buffalo at Kansas City CBS 5:40 pm

Chief’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol but practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday. That raises hopes the reigning Super Bowl MVP from Whitehouse can play in Sunday’s AFC title game against Buffalo.

NBA

The Cleveland Cavaliers plan to send Kevin Porter Jr. to the Houston Rockets for a heavily protected future second-round pick. The Rockets are taking on Porter, a 6-foot-4 wing who was the 30th overall pick in the 2019 draft, as a reclamation project after personal issues have prevented him from playing this season. Porter, 20, averaged 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists during a promising rookie year last season. The Rockets take on the Pistons at 6:00 tonight.
